Ashcourt Group add more Volvo machines

Recycling operator bolsters its growing equipment fleet with two Volvo excavators

HULL-based Ashcourt Group have continued to strengthen their plant fleet and, most recently, taken delivery of a 22-tonne EC220E crawler excavator and 16-tonne EW160E wheeled model. In total, the company has purchased in excess of 40 Volvo’s since October 2013.

Just over a year ago, Ashcourt invested in a new recycling facility and concrete batching plant in Hull as an important addition to their operations portfolio. The plant handles a wide variety of inert waste products, including wood, which is processed and recycled for biomass.

In order to process and handle the recycled material, Ashcourt are using the Volvo EC220E machine, which has been specifically rigged for the task in hand with a hydraulically elevated operator compartment to aid the safe loading of high sided bulkers and a rotating Kinshofer selector grab.

The excavator is ideally sized for working in the material bays, thanks to a forward reach of 9.5m and load over height of 6.4m. To minimize damage to the concrete pad, the machine has been supplied with optional city pads/rubber blocks bolted to the standard 700mm track pads.

Powered by a six-cylinder Volvo engine developing 174hp, the EC220E features two variable displacement hydraulic pumps that deliver 207 litres/min individually; providing plenty of hydraulic power to the front end of the machine. In addition to the standard hammer/shear lines, optional extras such as the X3 rotation circuit – also available on the EW160E – facilitate the use of the rotating selector grab.

Powered by a 152hp Tier 4 Final emissions-compliant engine, the wheeled EW160E excavator has multi-faceted role working across Ashcourt’s recycling and civils operations. Designed for a wide range of materials handling applications, the machine features a two-piece boom and large super single wheel/tyre assemblies.

Paul Dobson, recycling facility manager, commented: ‘Since purchasing our first Volvo machines three years ago, we’ve been impressed with the overall quality of the products, their reliability and fuel efficiency. Our operators certainly appreciate the cab comfort and the way the machines perform.’

He added: ‘We value the opinions of our operators when it comes to machine choice and selection and certainly the excavators and shovels from Volvo are widely respected for their performance as well as their high residual values. Not only that, we have developed a strong relationship with Volvo who provide us with excellent after sales support.’
